About me

I have been teaching Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone and Music Theory for 14 years as a peri and private tutor based mainly in the Chester area. I first learned recorder in primary school where I played by ear alone for several years as I just didn’t ‘get’ how to read notation. It wasn't until the last few months of primary school that it started to click into place when I started learning classical guitar.

It wasn’t until High School that I received formal tuition in the Flute from an amazing teacher Ted Milner I am still friends with and now work with on occasion. I am largely self-taught on both the Saxophone and Clarinet, not receiving formal lessons until I was approximately grade 4 standard on both instruments. I have nevertheless achieved Grade 8 with Merits and Distinction on all three instruments.

Further training, as a mature student, at Salford University resulted in a BA (Hons) Music in 2003. I enjoy a varied professional life, I teach primarily at Bishops High School in Chester and teach privately too.

I have been a regular guest soloist appearing with Cor Meibion Brymbo in recent years, which I thoroughly enjoyed and I also work as a pit musician for several theatre companies, which is always fantastic fun.

I am a long standing member of the Merseyside Police Band, Chester’s own The Little Big Band –  and also a recent recruit to Mold Town Concert Band - and the Len Cooper Big Band where I sometimes dep as MD when needed, and have also depped for the Liverpool Hope University Wind Band.

I have also formed and international ensemble with a dear friend Deniz Inan. Please see our Flutiano page on his website for details, and check out his music anyway! We had a successful small debut concert in my hometown in September when he came to visit and then I was invited over to perform in a concert in his hometown Ruthen, Germany in December which was our first classical concert programme. What an amazing experience, I was blessed to work with two other amazing musicians – Ioana Maria Lupascu and Mirel Iancovici amazingly talented musicians who have become dear friends.

I enjoy a varied musical ‘diet’, I am currently working on my Flute ATCL Diploma pieces at the moment for example, so am playing pieces by F. Ries, Rhene-Baton, Bach and Chaminade. However as I am a member of two Swing/Big Bands I also play rock and Glenn Miller!!!
